5 Desk Essentials You Won't Find at the Office Supply Store

How much time do you spend at your desk? I am guessing that I’m not the only one who feels like they spend more time at your desk than anywhere else.

Why not make your desk feel a little more like home and a lot less like work?

5 desk essentials you won't find at the office supply store belong magazine blog

After all my years sitting at a desk--both at home and in a corporate office environment--I’ve realized that there are a few things that I must have. And I didn’t find them at the office supply store.

  1. MINI FAN / With all the electronics running, it can get steamy pretty quick. And who wants to sit at their desk sweating? These mini fans are small enough that you can have it pointed only at yourself so that your papers and such aren’t blowing all over the place. And because I get myself all made up in the morning, I certainly don’t want my makeup running all over!

  2.  PICTURE FRAME + MOTIVATIONAL PRINT / I know it’s a little cliche, but there is just something about a pretty frame with some inspiring words sitting in front of you all day. My favorite print currently says, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Such a great reminder.

  3. “COASTER” / I know I am not the only who drinks at her desk even though I risk a spill onto my beloved laptop. Don’t you hate it when you accidentally run papers through the ring your beverage has left on the desk?! My favorite thing to use is one of the little beauties from The Everyday Co. It’s classy, simple and soaks up all the moisture--AND it’s washable.

  4. PLANT or FLOWERS  / Personally, I’m a Trader Joe’s flower junkie, but when I can’t get my hands on fresh, I love the mini succulents sitting on my desk. Having a little extra life on your work surface is energizing and refreshing.

  5. LAMP / I hate overhead lighting. I mean--hate it. I much prefer incandescent. And I much prefer a tabletop lamp over a desk lamp. It looks and feels so much warmer. Who said that a “task light” had to be ugly and task-ish?
